From drawing, sculpting and sketching to the famed landscapes of
his heyday, Pro Hart is widely considered one of outback
Australia's premier painters. His iconic work is spread over
three storeys at the Pro Hart Gallery, as well as his re-created
studio and impressive Rolls Royce collection.
Drop into Bell’s Milk Bar for a delicious milkshake or soda spider
surrounded by authentic 1950s decor. There are over 50 original
flavours to choose from, all made from cordials and syrups
manufactured in small batches on the premises. After indulging
your sweet tooth, check out the adjoining Milk Bar Museum and gift
shop.
The Broken Hill City Art Gallery is the oldest regional gallery in
NSW. See works from the Brushmen of the Bush, a group of five
artists who included Pro Hart, Eric Minchin and Jack Absalom.
There’s also an excellent collection of Indigenous works from
Badger Bates, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri and Emily Kame
Kngwarreye.
Sneak a peek inside the Silver City Mint & Art Centre, home to
the 'Big Picture', an incredible 100m-by-12m diorama of
the Broken Hill outback, as well as a range of handmade silver
jewellery, metal sculptures, mock opal mine and a chocolate
factory.
Come evening, it's time to kick back at the three-storied
Palace Hotel. Famous for its starring role in the movie
