Leaving Jindabyne, join the Alpine Way, a dramatic stretch of road
that’s rich in historic significance and breathtaking scenery.
Breathe in crisp air as you wind through the spectacular forests
and mountain ranges to the lakeside town of Khancoban, a great
base for exploring Kosciuszko National Park.
It's most famous for its snow sports, but Kosciuszko National
Park is an adventure hub all year round. Choose from bushwalking,
mountain biking, horse riding, fishing and kayaking in the warmer
months.
Whatever time of year you’re visiting, the Thredbo Alpine Coaster
is a thrilling way to admire the Snowy Mountains’ High Country.
This is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, offering
the chance to zip along a 1.5km track at speeds of up to 40km/hr,
whizzing through tunnels and across bridges along a route that is
as stunning as it is fun.
In summer, hike to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko on the
13km-return Kosciuszko Walk. Slightly shorter but no less
invigorating is the Guthega to Charlotte Pass walk, a 9km hike on
Monero Ngario Country that is the first section of the new,
multi-day Snowies Alpine Walk through Kosciuszko National Park. If
you’d rather a 4WD or mountain bike adventure, there are many
trails throughout the High Country as well, not in the least those
that criss-cross Thredbo Mountain Bike Park.Drop in here to
explore 40km of gravity and cross-country trails, or make the most
of the pump tracks and skills parks at Australia’s only
lift-accessed mountain bike park.
Finish your journey in the tiny town of Khancoban. It was
originally built to house workers on the Snowy Mountains
Hydro-Electric Scheme and you can learn about its rich history at
the Visitor Information Centre. The town sits on the shores of a
3km lake, which is perfect for fishing and boating.
